Sivananda, who has become a celebrity in India, lives with no help or medical aid, performing yoga every day

The Hindu is now applying to the Guinness Book of World Records to verify his claim to be the oldest person in the world after Japan’s Jiroemon Kimura died in June 2013 aged 116 years and 54 days.

He said: “Discipline is the most important thing is life. One can conquer anything with discipline in food habits, exercise, and sexual desires.”

“Control over your needs is the biggest gain in life.
